Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs to design, build, and lead the organization’s in-house legal function. This senior executive role serves as the organization’s principal legal advisor and a core member of the C-suite, partnering closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership. The SVP of Legal Affairs will shape legal strategy, ensure regulatory compliance, manage enterprise risk, and establish scalable legal operations within a complex healthcare and nonprofit environment.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Executive Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the organization’s senior internal legal executive and trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership

  • Partner with leadership on organizational strategy, legal priorities, and enterprise risk management

  • Provide counsel on governance, audit, compliance, and strategic planning matters

  • Prepare materials for and liaise with the Board of Directors and external General Counsel as needed

Legal Function Design & Operations

  • Establish the legal vision, structure, and long-term roadmap for the in-house legal function

  • Design and implement legal operations, including staffing, workflows, matter management systems, and performance metrics

  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, templates, and legal guidelines across the organization

  • Build and manage scalable contracting processes supporting clinical operations, vendors, grants, managed care, technology, and enterprise initiatives

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive legal risk management and compliance framework aligned with healthcare regulations and nonprofit governance requirements

  • Advise on healthcare regulatory matters, including HIPAA, FDA, CLIA, state licensure, Stark and Anti-Kickback laws, CMS/Medicaid/Medicare (as applicable), credentialing, reimbursements, and emerging regulations

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local healthcare laws and nonprofit requirements, including IRS 501(c)(3) regulations, Form 990 disclosures, charitable solicitation laws, and exempt-organization governance standards

  • Partner with compliance leadership to strengthen audits, investigations, reporting, and safeguards

Strategic Initiatives & Legal Oversight

  • Support strategic initiatives such as expansion projects, joint ventures, fundraising, grants, capital projects, and major vendor selections

  • Oversee litigation management, employment matters, intellectual property, data privacy, and insurance coverage in coordination with external counsel

  • Provide training to leaders and team members on legal, regulatory, and governance topics

  • Foster organizational awareness of legal risk and encourage proactive issue identification

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of legal experience, including a strong mix of law firm and in-house experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare law, nonprofit governance, regulatory compliance, and operational contracting

  • Proven experience advising senior executives and boards

  • Prior experience in nonprofit healthcare or other highly regulated industries preferred

Licensure

  • Must be currently licensed or eligible to apply for admission to the Florida Bar
