Overview

Assists with staff supervision, training, and administrative duties. Manufactures blood and blood products in compliance with regulatory/accrediting agencies.

 

Position Schedule: Candidate must be available to work a flexible schedule with an 8 hour shift scheduled between the hours of 2:00pm - 2:00am any day of the week including weekends. 

 

Training Schedule:  Candidate may be required to attend training Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm for a period of 3-4 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with supervising, coaching & training of assigned staff
  • Performs mentor duties asociated with onboarding new employees, annual competency sign off and responsibilities of assigned staff
  • Ensures adequate inventory of required supplies
  • Manufactures, stores and distributes blood and blood products
  • Performs data entry associated with component production, labeling, storage and shipping ensuring accurate and complete manufacturing records
  • Operates, maintains and perform quality control checks on equipment
  • Performs the quarantine and disposition of unacceptable products and/or samples
  • Prepares and submits quality control samples for testing
  • Responds to internal customer service requests regarding inventory, ABO Discrepancies, TTIMS, BacT Positive, Reference Lab requests
  • Performs administrative duties as assigned

 

 

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent and six months prior laboratory, blood bank manufacturing or logistics experience. Prior team lead experience preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

None

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to multi-task, while maintaining the safety of blood components
  • Ability to speak, write, read and understand English
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships and those contacted in the course of work
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Skill in operating office equipment and technology
  • Ability to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency or other catastrophic event.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Functions are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements and pathogenic substances. Performance of this job could expose the employee to blood-borne pathogens and freezers at or below freezing temperatures (-30F/-35C). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
