Overview

Designs, implements and oversees the physical design and operation of the organization’s databases in order to maintain security and integrity controls.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of production, non-production and redundant database environments
  • Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management and monitors transaction activity and utilization
  • Reviews database design and integration of systems and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements
  • Develops, manages and tests back-up and recovery plans ensuring that all procedures are functioning properly
  • Maintains security and integrity controls over the databases
  • Contributes to the development of a strategy for use of relational databases technology
  • Advises organization leaders on database concepts and functional capabilities and recommends system changes to programming staff.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field from an accredited college or university and six (6) to eight (8) years of experience in related field; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

Database Certification (SQL Server and Oracle) preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to speak, write, read, and understand English
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Skill in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to commute with personal transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds).

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

Functions are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements and pathogenic substances.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
